Diesel locomotives - 350 hp shunters

The standard BR 350 hp diesel-electric shunter appeared in 1952 as a derivative
of the last LMS design. By 1962, 1193 had been built, there being five variants. The
largest, class 08, was the English Electric/EE version, and a derived version, class 09
which was geared for a higher line speed. Class 10 was a version using Blackstone
engines and GEC transmission. There were two other small batches, one numbering
ten with Crossley/Crompton Parkinson equipment and ten members of a Blackstone/BTH
version. The original numbers were from 13000 upwards, later D3000. The EE units later
received TOPS numbers in the 08 series while the other types were withdrawn with their 1957
series numbers. 97800, shown in this gallery was renumbered into the Departmental series.

The locomotives are here shown with the numbers they were carrying when photographed
but are listed in the order of their original numbers, which are shown in brackets.
