Diesel locomotives - Class 56

The class 56 Co-Co locomotives, which entered service between 1977
and 1984. were members of the first class designed for British Rail solely
for freight operation. Brush won the contract to design and build although
the construction of the locomotives was contracted out. The first 30
machines were built by Electroputere of Craiova in Romania to speed
delivery but proved to need much remedial work after delivery.
56031-56115 were built at Doncaster and 56116-35 at Crewe.
