Transport of Delight

A miscellany of ex-BR preserved steam locomotives

This gallery contains photographs I have taken of steam locomotives
now in preservation which were originally operated by BR or after
takeover by BR from the "Big Four" in 1948. They are seen while running
on special trains, out at Open Days etc. or at locations where I did not
take enough views to justify a separate gallery.

Other locomotives can be seen on the galleries dedicated to
specific preserved railways and sites.

As far as possible, locomotives are shown in numerical order of their
BR numbers (Isle of Wight locomotives being included with the SR
group), even where a locomotive is in an older livery. The one
exception to this is Caledonian 123 which was placed in preservation
by the LMS before nationalisation.

Separate galleries showing diesel locomotives in preservation,
narrow-gauge operations and standard gauge locomotives
not acquired from main line sources can be reached via the
Museums Index link.

There are 23 photographs in this gallery.
