London Tramlink
(formerly Croydon Tramlink)

Photographs © Geoff Bannister

Currently, there are four services in operation:
Route 1: Elmers End-West Croydon via Central Croydon loop
Route 2: Beckenham Junction-West Croydon via Central Croydon loop
Route 3: Wimbledon-New Addington
Route 4: Elmers End-Therapia Lane

London Tramlink now has a fleet of 30 trams in service:
24 Bombardier CR4000 cars (2530-2553), which entered service in 2000
6 Stadler Variobahn cars (2554-2559) which were delivered in 2012.

Photographs on this page were taken at three periods. The earliest, showing
cars in the original red and white livery were taken during trial running and
training in 1999. A second series were taken on three occasions during the
summer of 2009 and a final batch in March 2013. Later pictures show the
trams in their green, blue and white livery introduced after Transport for
London (TfL) took over operation in 2008.

The photographs are intermixed because I have presented the views
geographically, starting from the west, then looking at the town centre
loop and East Croydon station followed by the eastern routes.

My intention is to try to cover the entire system fairly thoroughly. At the
moment, I have only a few views in some areas, particularly the
Beckenham Junction/Elmers End lines beyond Arena, something
which I hope to remedy on some future visit.

1: Central loop line

I am starting photographically from East Croydon station. Just down the slope
from here,a clockwise one-way loop begins at the junction of George Street
and Wellesley Road running down to Reeves Corner where it swings round
along Tamworth Road past West Croydon station, returning to East Croydon
station along Wellesley Road.

2: East Croydon station to Sandilands

Cars on Routes 1 and 2 circumnavigate the loop in order to officially terminate at
West Croydon while Routes 3 and 4 miss the curve from George Street into Tamworth
Road in order to continue westwards. From East Croydon Station, all four routes run
together on two-way street tracks until they reach Sandilands, where they diverge,
Route 3 turning south and the others north.
